Lot Essay

A manuscript of the Dala'il al-Khayrat in the British Library is illustrated with very similar paintings of Mecca and Medina, although executed with more simple details. The British Library manuscript is dated to the 17th century and attributed to the Deccan (Hajj, exhibition catalogue, London, 2012, fig.27, pp.54-55) . The depiction of onion-shaped domes for the mosque of the Prophet is typically Indian.
