Lot Essay

Another Damascus pottery dish, potted with a similar short ring foot which clearly differs from the wider ring base of Iznik vessels, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (C.1987-1910). A large baluster jar, also in the V & A displays the same colour palette of blue, sage green and manganese. It is dated to the second half of the 16th century (Arthur Lane, Later Islamic Pottery, London, 1971, cat.48 - 190.1892). For two other Damascus dishes in this sale, see lot 384 and lot 386.
