AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED EYE CUP
CIRCA LATE 6TH CENTURY B.C.
Each side with large pair of eyes with arching brows above, one side with the central figure of Herakles running to the right, the nude hero holding his club aloft in his right hand, the lion-skin draped over his left arm, the other side with a large nude male, possibly the giant Alkyoneus reclining on a cushion, a club in added white held in his left hand, scrolling palmettes under the handles, details in added white and red

Private collection, UK, acquired 19th Century; and thence by descent to the present owner.
