Lot Essay

For a similar bowl with coiled serpent cf. D. Freeman ed. Splendors of the Ancient east, Antiquities from The al-Sabah Collection, London, 2013, p. 48, no. 13. Although catalogued as a serpent the decoration on the body seems to suggest tufts of wool representing a ram, however the style of carving and the design are very similar to the above example.
