Lot Essay

Of monumental scale, these finely cast, impressive figural candelabra perfectly encapsulate the spirit of the Belle Epoque. Although the present lot is not marked, the casting and chasing are of superior quality, indicative of the finest fondeurs of this period such as Denière and Barbedienne. A related model from Crockfords Casino sold Christie’s, London, 14 March 2013, lot 160 (£91,875). Another similar pair sold Sotheby's, New York, 20 April 2007, lot 160 ($312,000).
