Please note that this lot was previously sold in an Anon. sale in these Rooms, 14 April 1988, lot 18. It is also published in the ‘Auction Price Guide’ of Hali 39, May/June 1988, p.86, where the author comments that they know of no other example with a lattice field and would hesitate to attribute it to any particular Anatolian village, they also write that it would be an ideal contender for a ‘show and tell’ evening.

The field design of this unusual rug is one that we more readily associate with 18th century Karabagh Blossom carpets, such as the example in the Österreichisches Museum für angewante Kunst in Vienna, inv. no. Or 320/1891/1907 HM Nr 13890. A rug with a very similar field design and outer stripe is published in Dennis R. Dodds and Murray L. Eiland, Jr, Oriental Rugs from Atlantic Collections, Philadelphia, 1996, pl.30, p.30.
