Lot Essay

The design of the present lot has been clearly mirrored along its central axis creating the kaleidoscopic effect that is discussed in lot 49 of this sale. A similar example displaying a single ogival medallion in its field was sold in Sotheby's New York, 24 September, 1991, lot 260.
