This is a quintessential example of a distinctive type of jadeite which was carved into a number of works of art in the nineteenth century. It is characterized by a deep, vivid emerald-green colour, opacity, and jagged lines of lighter, sometimes white, veining running through it. As in the case of other fine jadeite, the best colored specimens were frequently left plain so that the natural beauty of the material could perform without the interference of surface decoration.
