TWO YAOZHOU BOWLS
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (960-1127)
One bowl is carved with a stylised flower surrounded by combed waves, all under a lustrous glaze of olive-green tone thickening in the recesses, leaving the base unglazed. The other bowl is moulded to the interior with scrolling chrysanthemums borne on a leafy vine with a single chrysanthemum flowerhead to the centre. It is covered overall with an olive-green glaze.
Carved bowl: 5 1/2 in. (14 cm.) diam.; moulded bowl: 4 1/4 in. (11.1 cm.) diam. (2)
