The bold double-scrolls and plumed crest feature on the pair supplied in 1726 by cabinet-maker John Belchier for Erddig in North Wales (A. Bowett, Early Georgian Furniture 1715-1740, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 2009, p. 292, fig. 6:5:1). A small group of similar design includes an example sold by the late Anne, Lady Hollenden, Christie's, London, 23 November 2006, lot 31 (£50,200) and another sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 22 November 2007, lot 652 (£42,500). A further example with the distinctive combination of feathers and lambrequin canopy appears in the Ronald Phillips catalogue, Reflections of the Past: Mirrors 1685-1815, 2004, no. 12, pp. 34-35.
