Lot Essay

An armchair of the same model was sold from the Van Cliburn Collection, Christie's, New York, 17 May 2012, lot 112 ($35,000) which appears to be the 'mahogany' example illustrated in P. Macquoid, A History of English Furniture: The Age of Mahogany, London, 1906, p. 62, fig. 51.
