The form and decoration of the present kendi appear to be Western interpretations of Asian prototypes. European imitations of yixing wares began in the 17th century and continued into the 18th century, most notably at the Meissen factory. For a similar yixing and early Böttger kendi, see U. Pietsch, Meissener Porzellan und Seine Ostasiatischen Vorbilder, Leipzig, 1996, p. 71, no. 11.
