A FRENCH ORMOLU THREE-PIECE CLOCK GARNITURE
Comprising a clock and a pair of ten-light candelabra, the clock surmounted by Neptune borne on a shell and supported by winged mermaids, the circular case centred by an enamel dial signed 'MONBRO FILS AINE / A PARIS / JACQUIER HER,' with twin-barrel movement, recoil anchor escapement and countwheel strike to bell, the movement stamped '1476' over a rocaille base flanked by horses and centred by a horn-blowing merman, the candelabra modelled en suite each with two putti supporting scrolling branches, the candelabra fitted for electricity
The clock: 36 in. (91.5 cm.) high; 33 ¼ in. (84.5 cm.) wide; 12 ½ in. (32 cm.) deep
The candelabra: 35 in. (89 cm.) high, excluding fitments

Lot Essay

The famous Paris firm of Monbro was founded around 1801, and known as a 'Maison spéciale pour ameublements anciens, ateliers de réparations, pendules, bronzes, candélabres, porcelaine de Chine et de Sèvres, meubles sculptés, bois dorés Louis XIV, Louis XV’. The firm also maintained a shop in London in the 1860s, showing its importance at the time. Monbro received prestigious commissions from King Louis-Philippe, the Duchesses d'Aumale and for the Château de Saint-Cloud and took part in the 1855 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie.
