As becoming of Beurdeley's pre-eminence, the ormolu of the present garniture is beautifully finished in matt and burnished gilding and difficult to distinguish from late eighteenth century work. Almost certainly copied from a yet to be identified Louis XVI neoclassical model, the l'Antiquité greque design of this clock is in the style of Jean-Charles Delafosse (d. 1791) or Richard de Lalonde (d. 1808). It is paired by Beurdeley with candelabra modelled as two putti closely referencing an 18th century model of which a comparable pair was sold Christie’s, New York, 24 October 2013, lot 560 ($32,500).
