(Small paper repair in lower margin of L1, light marginal browning, a little stronger on title, very light and unobtrusive waterstaining affecting a few leaves, a few light spots.) (Long closed, clean tear in 3a2 and 3i3, lower outer corner of last few leaves lightly waterstained, light marginal browning.) 2 works in one volume, 4° (234 x 171mm). Green morocco gilt by Charlton, arms of Sebright Argent of Besford, Worcester on sides, spine lettered gilt in one compartment, the others lavishly tooled in gilt, gilt turn-ins (extremities rubbed, lower cover slightly affected by damp, new endpapers). The Fauconnerie of Charles d'Arcussia (1545-1617) was first published in three parts in 1598: 'the work is much esteemed on account of its originality and the amount of information which it conveys, and particularly for the description which the author gives of flights which he witnessed when hawking with the king' (Harting, p. 82). This edition is the first to contain La fauconnerie du Roy and the poem by Esparron; the Discours de chasse was only included in 1619.
