Title, dedication, index, list of subscribers, 20 lithographic plates, all but one hand-coloured, by Lauro Ferrod after Audubon, printed by L. Marquier. (Some soiling, browning and spotting.) Contemporary quarter green morocco, gilt spine, green edges (extremities rubbed.) Provenance: Joaquin M. Abaurre (bookplate) – shelfmark label on spine and endpapers.
FIRST EDITION OF THIS ELUSIVE WORK. Many of the descriptions are by Juan Gundlach. Zimmer and Nissen only call for 18 of the plates to be hand-coloured. Fine Bird Books p. 89: ‘rare’; Nissen IVB 543 (1902 facsimile edition only); Zimmer p. 384: 'a great rarity’.
