[With:] 3 double-page engraved views of the Vatican by Giuseppe VASI (1710-1782): Il Prospetto principale del Tempio e Piazza di S. Pietro in Vaticano, e Palazzo Pontifico (Rome, 1774); La Veduta del Fianco destro della Basilica Vaticana con l'Ordinanza della Solenne Cavalcata del Somo Pontefice (Rome, 1778); and L'Interno della Basilica Vaticana colla rappresentanza dell' Ordine, con cui l'Ecclesiastica Gerarchia Cardinali Arcivescovi (Rome, 1775). (Dampstain to lower margin and into images, light spotting to the Vasi plates.) Contemporary half russia (spine splitting and head defective, heavily rubbed).
FINE IMPRESSIONS OF ROSSINI'S FIRST MAJOR WORK, in its second edition (the first appeared in 1823). Highly influenced by Piranesi, 'This work made Rossini's name, and was the first in what became a series of ten major works, some of which are listed on the "Catalogo" on the verso of the present title-leaf' (RIBA). The three plates by Vasi bound at the end offer SUPERB VIEWS OF ST PETER'S BASILICA AND PAPAL CEREMONIES ON A GRAND SCALE. Berlin Kat. 1916; RIBA 2848.
