Quarto (233 x 185 mm). 18 engravings by de Geetere, and a duplicate suite bound-in at the end, all with tissue guards. Near-contemporary maroon half morocco, with the original printed wrappers bound-in, spine with raised bands lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut (spine lightly and evenly faded). FIRST EDITION ILLUSTRATED BY DE GEETERE. PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE ARTIST TO DARAGNES, who had also published fine illustrations for Verlaine's Femmes (1917). De Geetere's distinctive style has a dark, atmospheric quality that provides a fresh perspective on the text, far removed from mere titillation.
