A MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID HONGMU AND BURWOOD FLOOR SCREEN
LATE 19TH CENTURY
The burwood panel is carved in high relief with a scholar and his attendants with a crane holding a brush in its beak, all within a mountainous landscape. The reverse is carved with a shou character amongst bats. The panel is inset in an openwork hongmu frame carved with two confronting phoenix to the top and two figures to the side, all resting upon feet shaped as recumbent Buddhist lions.
