A CELADON JADE CARVING OF AN ASCETIC MONK ON A CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL LOTUS BASE
17TH-18TH CENTURY
The seated, smiling figure is carved and pierced and has downcast eyes and wears a dhoti, he rests his hands on his raised knee. His facial details and robes are finely incised and the stone is of a celadon tone with white flecks and russet inclusions. The figure is supported on a cloisonné enamel lotus base, its upper surface fashioned as a lotus pod.
