According to the Archives of Audemars Piguet, the present watch is a unique piece made for Gübelin, based on a reference 5526 as per the archival images. It was sold to Gübelin in 1951.

This very fine watch is a perfect example for one of Audemars Piguet's celebrated "Grand Complication" watches, distinguished by their outstanding quality and elegant design. The present example impresses with its highly unusual dial layout, placing the numerals on a recessed ring to the outermost border, encircling the railway minute divisions, thus reversing their commonly found positions. This arrangement renders the watch a very unique appearance, placing the emphasis on the calendar and chronograph indications.

Preserved in very good, original overall condition, the rarity is further enhanced by the retailer's signature Gübelin, Audemars Piguet's distinguished retailer in Lucerne, for whom it was made certainly by special order.

E. Gübelin was founded in 1854 and has always been a family enterprise. Located in Lucerne, Switzerland, the renowned company has been manufacturing and retailing superior quality watches and clocks ever since. The firm was one of Audemars Piguet's most important clients in the first quarter of the 20th century.
