With Rolex original machine-typed Guarantee stating the watch was sold by Bauer, leather wallet, instructions, calendar, booklet, sale tag, a copy of the book Rolex Daytona, a legend is born with autograph dedication by the author Giovanni Dosso, expertise by Dr. Carlo Pergola, presentation box and outer packaging.
Reference 6264, the last of the black bezel non screw down pushers manually wound Daytonas, was produced for only about four years from the late '60s to 1972. The larger case construction of this reference, combined with the large black bezel and the unobtrusive pushers imparts to the watch a presence and apparent size the far exceeds its 37.5 mm. of diameter.
The present example stands out amidst the other 6264s in more than one way. It has been consigned together with the machine-typed guarantee stating that it was sold by Bogota retailer Bauer and, as a matter of fact, the Bauer serial number 436194XZ3 is hand engraved under the top left lug. Anecdotal evidence suggests that all Rolex retailed by Bauer at the time have the guarantee with the serial number typewritten with the same typewriter, which is allegedly still in Bauer's office in Bogota.
The remarkable provenance is not the only highlight of this wristwatch, which will enthrall even the most spoiled collector with its impressive condition: the case has obviously never seen a brush in its entire life. The lugs are as full as when it left the factory, the satin finish pristine, hardly any sign of wear can be spotted on it and the edges of the lugs are razor sharp. Such an outstanding condition was even acknowledged by one of the authors of Rolex Daytona, a legend is born, a copy of which accompanies the watch with an autograph dedication in Italian by one of the authors, Giovanni Dosso, that reads: "I think the Newman 6264 on page 171 is one of the finest and rarest. I'm happy it is now yours"
Because of its practically as-new condition, the present watch is prominently illustrated in Rolex Daytona from birth to the myth by Carlo Pergola, Stefano Mazzariol and Giovanni Dosso, ed. Best, pp. 171.
