The hinged, ratcheted and sliding top with tooled leather writing surface, above an arrangement of seven drawers, two of which are fitted, flanked by two sliding drop-leaves, on reeded tapering legs, the castors stamped COPE'S PATENT, inscribed in pencil J. Becket

Lot Essay

An almost identical design with a simpler turned tapering leg is shown in the firm's Estimate Sketch Books folio 5114. The craftsman in this instance was also John Becket.
