The Currie collection was formed by Bertram Wodehouse Currie between 1877-90. Divided between his three residences, Minley Manor in Hampshire, Coombe Warren near Kingston-upon-Thames, and No. 1 Richmond Terrace, Whitehall, the incredibly varied collection embraced everything from Dresden porcelain, English portraits and clocks and Italian old masters, to English and French decorative arts of the 18th Century. The privately printed 1909 catalogues for Coombe Warren and Richmond Terrace reveal many items were bought at landmark sales such as Hamilton Palace in 1882 and Blenheim Palace in 1886. A pair of Louis XVI ormolu-mounted Chinese porcelain vases formerly in the collection of William Beckford at Fonthill Manor (sold Phillips, 9 September-27 October 1823, lot 1205, to 'Emmerson') was among the collection, these were sold Christie's, London, 4 July 2013, lot 39 (£421,875 including premium).
