This side table is typical of mid-18th Century Irish furniture. The frieze is gracefully scalloped like the Venus shell badge that centres it. The legs have Roman acanthus trailing down the legs, in the Irish manner, and the paw feet are squared below a foliage carved 'hock', again an Irish characteristic. Tables that share these characteristics can be seen at Glin Castle, Co. Limerick and in the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University.
