Gaetano Monti (1750-1827) was a Milanese sculptor and wax modeller who was known for his highly detailed wax depictions of animals, as well as portraits of fashionable members of society, such as Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire, who he depicted in 1793 (E. J. Pyke, A Biographical Dictionary of Wax Modellers, Clarendon Press, 1973. p. 94).
