The shaped rectangular top above a frieze centred by a tablet of a swagged flower-filled ewer wreathed with a cornucopia issuing fruit, on square tapering legs headed by paterae and similar feet

Lot Essay

This pattern of elliptic bowed 'Sideboard' top featured in Messrs A. Hepplewhite & Co.'s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788, pl. 29. The 1788 Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster features a related table, enriched with veil-drapery, sunflowers, vine-festoons and a tablet celebrating the harvest deity, Ceres (L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 90).
