BY FRANCOIS LINKE, INDEX NO. 457, PARIS, THE MOUNTS DESIGNED BY LEON MESSAGE, CIRCA 1895

This striking bed was designed by Linke en suite with an armoire, also index number 457, which shared a similar female mask with crossed flambeau and quiver, such as the one sold Christie's, London, 23 February 2006, lot 50. The sketch for the masque de bal mount from Léon Messagé's folio is illustrated in C. Payne, François Linke, 1855-1946, The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, 2003, p. 305, pl. 382, while a watercolor sketch for a variation of the design from the Linke archive is illustrated to the left.
