Plain tapering, the terminal prick engraved with stylised flower, the back of the bowl prick engraved with initials 'DB' over 'ED' and dated '1664', marked in bowl with town mark and on stem with 'running dog' mark struck twice

Thomas Wood, Silversmith

Thomas Wood gained his freedom on 9 April 1600 (T. Kent, West Country Silver Spoons and Their Marks 1550-1750, Windsor, 1992, p. 86), having been apprenticed to Samuel Crawley. The mark he uses, described as a 'running' dog', is perhaps intended to represent a lion passant.
