André Col Héritier d'une famille de joailliers, André Col fonde sa maison en 1936, avenue Victor Hugo à Paris. Il s'impose très vite par sa créativité, la qualité d'éxécution de ses bijoux et ses commandes spéciales, réalisées par les meilleurs ateliers parisiens, qui travaillent également pour la place Vendôme. Il rend la joaillerie accessible et portable tous les jours, à une époque où les grands joailliers ne faisaient pas encore de collections boutique. Créatif et inspiré, il a souvent fait appel à des artistes, tels que l'illustrateur Toni J. Mella, ou le photographe Jacques Aubin, pour réaliser ses publicités et a été le premier à organiser des présentations sur mannequins lors de soirées privées. Dans les années 60, la maison Christian Dior le choisit pour lancer sa première montre. André Col a séduit, grâce à son style intemporel, une clientèle de personnalités élégantes, telles que Michèle Morgan, Jean Gabin, Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas, Ingrid Bergman ou Gary Cooper. Il fut l'un des joailliers vedette des années 60. Heir to a family of jewellers, André Col founded his own company in 1936 on Avenue Victor Hugo in Paris. He soon made a name for himself through the creativity and superb workmanship of his jewellery, as well as his special orders, crafted by the foremost Parisian workshops also working for the Place Vendôme. He made affordable jewellery for everyday wear at a time when the major jewellers were not yet designing boutique collections. Creative and inspired, he often called upon other artists, like illustrator Toni J. Mella and photographer Jacques Aubin, to create his advertisements, and was the first to hold jewellery fashion shows on live models at private parties. In the Sixties, when Maison Christian Dior sought to put its first watch on the market, the famed house chose Col for the work. His timeless style led to Col developing a clientele of sophisticated personalities, including Michèle Morgan, Jean Gabin, Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas, Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper. He was one of the celebrity jewellers of the 1960s.
