A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE 'ABSTINENCE' PLAQUE
QING DYNASTY, 18TH-19TH CENTURY
The plaque is shaped as a gourd encircled by curly leafy vines bearing small double gourds on the rims, carved to one side with the characters zhai jie (abstinence), repeated in Manchu on the other side. The semi-translucent stone is of a pale celadon tone with russet suffusion.
