AN OVAL TAOHE 'ORCHID PAVILION' INKSTONE
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The oval inkstone is finely carved and incised on the top with a pavilion nestled within a wooden landscape by a winding stream serving as the inkwell, above an irregularly shaped palette. The sides are incised with scenes from the gathering at the Orchid Pavilion. The sloping underside is carved in relief with geese swimming and on an enbankment.
