Lot Essay

Dianmeizhuren is the pseudonym for Li Meitang (1841-1900), who was from one of the most esteemed gentry families in Zhenhai area, Ningbo, during the late Qing dynasty, and was the sole heir to the Li family's vast shipping business. Li Meitang was known to have more interest in scholarly pursuits rather than business running, and followed the tradition of Qing scholar-officials to commission porcelain pieces bearing their own hall or studio names.
