Engraved to one side with a map of the Governorate of Minsk and its coat of arms, the other side with a map and coat of arms of the Kingdom of Poland , local costume and details in Cyrillic of the area, its rivers, towns, geographical characteristics and statistics, the side panels similarly engraved with lists of towns and architectural and scenic views including a railway and representations of local industry and produce, further details inscribed on top of pull-off cover, gilt interior

Lot Essay

This was obviously one of a series showing the various provinces that made up the Russian Empire. A similar box appeared at Sotheby's, New York, April, 2010 and another in Sotheby's, London, June,2013, the latter relating to St. Petersburg and Kiev
