Re-upholstered in close-nailed blue velvet, the frame carved with foliate scrolls, paterae and anthemia, the front rail stamped P. MARCION, the rear rail with torn early 19th century label 'Mr Le Marechal Mortie[r]....Salon de jeu Rez de Ch[aussée]...3f'

Lot Essay

Pierre-Benoît Marcion (d.1840) was cabinet-maker to Emperor Napoleon and was second only in importance to Jacob. A chair from the same suite (very probably the current lot) sold Christie's, London, 18 May 1995, lot 256.
