Depicting two horses pulling a bearded man in a sledge, on a polished brass base, indistinctly signed in Cyrillic, with the Berto Foundry stamp, the underside inscribed 'M1417'
10 ¼ in. (27 cm.) high; 26 ½ in. (67.5 cm.) wide; 8 ¼ in. (21 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

This group relates closely to a model, with one horse, by the celebrated artist, Vasilii Grachev (1831-1905), whose bronzes representing scenes from Russian daily life were renowned for their sense of movement and action.
