TRANSLATION OF THE POEMS
In the blowing east wind, I recite poems ceaselessly,
Butterflies and bees dance freely around me.
Peonies blooming ever so sweetly,
Blushing shades dark crimson and white.
In the great hall, guests dressed in silk gather and dine,
Beyond the red curtains, the splendor of spring shines.
Songs are sung fuelled by free-flowing wine,
Drunk, some are asleep amongst the flowers.
Seize the moment and enjoy the pleasures of life!
Spring will not last forever.
It is only natural that flowers blossom and wither,
I would rather be laughed at by the flower fairies.
Handscroll, ink on paper
Painting measures 32 x 136 cm. (12 5/8 x 53 1/2 in.)
Calligraphy measures 32 x 425 cm. (12 5/8 x 167 1/4 in.)
