With open scroll work corona above vacant cartouche-shaped mounts, with oviform glass shade and acanthus wrapped pineapple terminal
44 in. (112 cm.) high; 19 ½ in. (49.5 cm.) wide

Alice, Lady Wernher, subsequently Lady Ludlow (1862-1945), to their son

Lot Essay

The present lot corresponds exactly to a drawing from the Luton Hoo archive with the stamp of the architectural firm of Charles Mewès and hand-written inscription 'Lobby, Plafonnier, Mr Wernher'. Lanterns of the same pattern were sold Works of Art from the Wernher Collection, Christie's, South Kensington, 7 July 2000, lot 92, £26,000.
