Houses (Lot 362) is a more directly illustrative work which clearly delineates the tiled roofs of the buildings and the small pathway leading between them. The houses crowd into the vertical format of the scene, and Chua expertly suggests the feeling of closeness and intimacy found in the neighbourhoods of old. With deep affection for the old streets and forgotten architectures that characterised the landscape of Singapore, Chua's works are a visual archive of the feelings and memories tied to these places.
