A painter at his easel

This may well have been intended as a form of self-portrait, although the angle from which the artist is shown makes a firm identification impossible. A self-portrait by Bernard in black chalk, probably dating from a later period than this drawing, is in the Rijksmuseum (inv. RP-T-FM-346).
