An attribution to an Italian artist has also been suggested: a note in the collection files posits a stylistic similarity to the works of Nicoletto da Modena (active circa 1500-circa 1520) (M.M. Licht, 'A Book of Drawings by Nicoletto da Modena', Master Drawings, VIII, 1970, pp. 379-86), although the figural types seem more Northern.
