Lot Essay

Despite the traditional attribution to Moyaert, no direct correlation with one of his finished prints or pictures has yet been found. There are, however, some similarities in reverse with a painting of the same subject by Jan Symonsz. Pynas (1581/82-1631) in the Museum in Aschaffenburg (A. Tümpel, 'Claes Cornelisz. Moeyaert', Oud Holland, LXXXVIII, 1974, p. 53, fig. 73).
