Lot Essay

The original model was made by Pierre Gouthière and delivered in 1781 to the Duchesse de Mazarin.
Another copy, made by Henry Dasson, is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munchen, 1986, vol. II, p. 425. A set of four, unsigned, was sold Christie's, London, 26 February 1998, lot 150.
