A PLAYFUL REAGAN LETTER IN WHICH HE DECOROUSLY CENSORS HIS MILD EXPLETIVES: “Why don’t you light some place so you can be swatted? Every letter I get is from a different corner of the world. To h—l with it, I am going to address this one to your N.Y. address and you can grab it when you pick up your laundry.” In the second deleted expletive in this letter, Reagan confesses that “life is pretty d—n dull. By the way isn’t this classy stationery?” (He is writing on unadorned paper.) “This is how I retain the common touch. Of course with better paper I’d write better (?).” He explains that he just missed out on a trip to Honolulu, presumably for a film. “I’ll be lucky if I get to Catalina. Come to think of it Catalina sounded pretty wonderful when I lived in Iowa. (When I lived in Iowa even Peoria sounded good.)...”
