4° (355 x 280mm). 22 hand-colored lithographed plates by C. M. Badger. (Some light spotting.) Publisher’s brown morocco, covers gilt- and blind-stamped, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, others gilt, edges gilt (some light rubbing or wear).
FIRST EDITION. Each plate is described on the “List of Flowers,” including information about the class and order of each flower, and each plate is accompanied by a poem. "Both Clarissa Munger and her sister, Caroline, were artists... Clarissa concentrated her talents on drawing plants and flowers…Though little is known about her life other than the landmark dates of her birth, marriage, and death, Mrs. Badger's fine drawings and talented hand have survived to keep her name alive" (J. Kramer, Women of Flowers, New York: 1996). Nissen BBI 57.
