4° (337 x 281 mm). Half-title. Hand-colored aquatint title vignette and 48 hand-colored aquatint plates after Fielding and Walton. (Some occasional light offsetting of text onto plates.) Red morocco gilt, covers panelled with fillets, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, gilt turn-ins, edges gilt (some light rubbing).

FIRST EDITION, LARGE-PAPER COPY, according to Tooley issued in 100 copies. To summarize Ackermann's introduction, this work unites the "most striking features of the various kinds of scenery of the lakes, executed by able artists in a style worthy of the subject" with "a descripion of all that is interesting and remarkable in the nature and appearance of the country... combining a judicious selection from the labours of former writers... with much new and original information."
