2 volumes in one, 4° (293 x 226 mm). Wood-engraved vignette by J. H. Brightly after Hoffy, on both titles, 60 hand-colored lithographed plates by and after A. Hoffy, E. Quayle, and D. S. Quinton (“Large Newton Pippin” plate trimmed unevenly with marginal tears touching letters but not affecting image, some staining mostly to text.) Contemporary half morocco and marbled boards, spine gilt lettered (light rubbing to edges).

FIRST EDITION, "THE FIRST AMERICAN JOURNAL COMPLETELY DEVOTED TO FRUIT AND ITS CULTIVATION" (Oak Spring Pomona). Alfred Hoffy, a skilled lithographer, worked for several printers of lithography in Philadelphia, before he focused on his Orchardist’s Companion. Bunyard 439; Oak Spring Pomona 59.
