6 volumes, 8° (233 x 150 mm). 318 chromolithographic plates (including one lithographic plate). (A few plates trimmed close touching plate number, some occasional pale spotting.) Contemporary green calf, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, red morocco lettering-piece gilt in one, brown morocco gilt lettering-piece in one, the rest gilt stamped, edges gilt (extremities lightly rubbed, a few hinges starting).
Third edition of Pratt’s work, originally published in 5 volumes from 1850-1870. Throughout the course of her career, Pratt wrote and illustrated more than 20 books, including Flowering plants, "the most widely-used book on English wild flowers for half a century" (Great Flower Books, p.71). Nissen BBI 1562.
