7 parts in 3 volumes, 4° (319 x 235 mm). 352 lithographic plates, some double-page or folding, partially hand-colored. (Some foxing and staining, a few plates and leaves with marginal tears, a few repaired, some plates shaved catching image or caption, a few leaves short.) 19th-century leather-backed marbled boards (extremities rubbed, one text leaf disbound vol.3, corners bumped).

FIRST EDITION. A foundation work on succulents, based upon the author's collection of live specimens at Schloss Dyck which was unrivalled at the time. RARE: according to American Book Prices Current, only three copies of this work have appeared at auction in the last 35 years.
