Modelled as an eagle with outstretched wings standing on top of a globe, the globe engraved with longitude and latitude lines, and the names of the cities, countries and seas in Chinese characters with two vacant cartouches, the base plate marked 'shang lao qing yun ping jian' in Chinese characters

Lot Essay

The Qingyun silver workshop was founded in 1783 based in Shaghai, and was known collectively along with other Shanghai silver workshops as the 'Nine Factories'. By the early 20th century it was reputably one of the largest silver workshops in Shanghai.
